Will AI Replace Anti-Cheat Reverse Engineering?
Not in 2026, and probably not by 2030. AI tools (LLM-assisted disassembly, AI-augmented decompilers like Ghidra+LLM plugins, automated signature-extraction pipelines) accelerate specific anti-cheat reverse-engineering tasks by 2-5x, but they don't replace the human reverse engineer. The strategic decisions — which bypass approach to pursue, which signatures will survive detection, which evasion technique fits a given anti-cheat — still require human pattern-recognition. AI is a force multiplier for senior reverse engineers, not a replacement.
The question of whether AI will replace anti-cheat reverse engineering is being asked across the cheat-development community as LLM tooling becomes integrated into reverse-engineering workflows. Pattern matching across binaries. AI-augmented binary diffing tools can identify equivalent functions across binary versions (e.g., the same anti-cheat function in Vanguard 1.2 vs 1.3), accelerating diff-based analysis of anti-cheat updates.
Known-pattern signature generation. Once an analyst identifies a code pattern to detect (or to evade), AI tools can generate signature variations and test their uniqueness across a corpus.
What AI doesn't do well

Anti-anti-analysis defeats. Modern anti-cheat binaries are heavily obfuscated, virtualized (VMProtect, Themida), packed, and structured to resist static analysis. Identifying that EAC's process-callback registration uses a specific kernel API pattern, and designing a bypass that hooks the right point in the kernel callback chain, is a synthesis task involving knowledge of Windows internals, anti-cheat architecture, and the cheat's own constraints. LLMs cannot currently do this without extensive human direction.
Anti-cheat protocol reverse engineering. Identifying the network protocol between an anti-cheat's client and server, including encryption layers, replay-protection, and integrity-checking, is a multi-stage analysis problem where LLM tools can help with parts but not the whole.
Evasion technique invention. Coming up with novel evasion techniques (a new way to hook D3D11Present without writing detectable detour bytes, for example) is a creative-engineering task where LLM tools are research assistants, not researchers.
Why human reverse engineers remain essential
Anti-cheat reverse engineering is adversarial. The anti-cheat developer is actively designing the binary to resist analysis. The reverse engineer's job is to defeat that resistance. LLM tools can accelerate the routine parts of this work, but the adversarial intelligence asymmetry favors human judgment. A reverse engineer can recognize "this looks like a junk function inserted to slow analysts down" and skip it. An LLM trained on benign code corpora cannot reliably make that judgment.
Additionally, the reverse-engineering community is small and the senior practitioners know each other's work. When a new anti-cheat technique appears, the analysis is published (often in private forums) and the community converges on bypass approaches. LLM tools do not currently have access to this distributed knowledge ecosystem.
What this means for the cheat-development industry

The cheat industry will continue to be human-driven for the foreseeable future, with AI as accelerant rather than substitute.
2027-2030 trajectory
AI capability is improving. The specific gains in pattern-recognition over obfuscated code and in adversarial robustness may eventually shift the analysis. By 2028-2030, it's plausible that AI tooling will handle a larger share of strategic bypass design. It's also plausible that anti-cheat developers will adopt AI-assisted obfuscation that adversarially defeats LLM analysis. The arms race continues in both directions.
